iOS Contact photo does not keep zoom cropping and shifts back to Original

Go to Contacts, select a contact, edit the picture, choose a picture, then crop and zoom it. Now save and go back to the search bar and find the contact. The profile pic appears the same as before the crop/zoom operation.

This problem has been around since about 2019 or so.

Also, are you using iCloud to sync your contacts? If so, try visiting the iCloud website and select the specific contact that has the re-positioned photo. Once selected, try to edit it using the iCloud website and save your changes. See if that helps.
