MacOS iCloud Archive no local storage

Is there a way to set the iCloud Archive so it does not take up space local on my Mac's SSD?

E.g. if I move a 100GB file from local documents to the iCloud Archive, then I would free up 100GB space from my local SSD.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.6

No. You can elect to optimize storage (System Preferences, Apple ID, iCloud), which will offload files into iCloud only should space become needed on your Mac.
