iPhone XR volume too low

Hi, I have an iPhone XR which doesn’t sound very loud when playing music or videos etc through the built in speakers. The same also applies with call volume. I have the volume turned to maximum, I have also got sound EQ on ‘late night’, I have also done countless hard resets but it makes no difference. Volume on it has never been great to be honest and I have friends with Samsung and other cheaper branded phones who’s volume even when on half its max volume is still far louder than my phone is on max volume. Is there anything that I can do? Volume is fine when using headphones or an external speaker. Thank you in advance if you can help solve this problem.

Hi Rory_Fraser,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with the volume on your iPhone XR when listening to the speakers on your device. We'd like to help.

Have you noticed a change in the volume since you've owned the iPhone or has it always been at this volume? Do you have a case and/or screen protector on your iPhone? If so, you should try to test the volume without those on the iPhone. Do you notice a change in the volume then?

Then, check out these tips to see if that helps:

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

Hope that helps.

Take care!
