Using Airpods Pro to "ping my iPhone" does not make any sound

I recently received a pair of Airpods Pro and have paired them with my iPhone 11 Pro Max and enabled everything in the Find My app. When I use the Airpods and tell Siri to ping my phone because I've misplaced it nearby, Siri responds that my phone has been found and that it is pinging. My phone gets a notification that it is pinging. I receive an email that my phone is pinging. However, my phone never pings or makes any noise to assist in locating it.

I've restarted my phone, disconnected and re-paired the airpods, and made sure the volume on my phone is up (though from my understanding of the ping feature this shouldn't matter). Nothing has changed and almost any search results are all for locating lost airpods with the iPhone, not the other way around. I was super excited to be able to use the ping feature because I don't have an Apple Watch and now I'm at a loss with how to get this feature to work. If anyone has any advice that would be great.

Thank you.
