External monitor (AOC E1659FWU) compatibility with OS Catalina, Big Sur or Monterey does not appear to be available?

When does Apple plan to resolve the external monitor issues I've seen in the Apple Support Community and internet for OS versions Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey? I have held off updating OS since Mojave for this reason but now have to update in order to secure adequate security measures with Microsoft Office 365 for MAC. Should I update to Catalina, then Big Sur? Not planning to update to Monterey as there appears to be too many other issues to address. Very frustrated with Apple non-responsiveness to external monitor users!

Yes, I think I had to install DisplayLink which is something like the "kernel extension" you mentioned. I have another MAC Air which is on Big Sur now as of 2 days ago (it's an old 2013 so that's the last OS update available) and my external monitor is not working on that computer now (whereas it did before on Mojave), so not sure how to resolve that issue. Thanks for the tip on using an iPad. Appreciate your help.

True - but it has worked as an USB connection for about 6 years now (through Yosemite, High Sierra and now Mojave).

If it worked with those, it would have required some third-party kernel extension to push video over USB.

Can you please advise which external monitor you use that appears to work fine not using a USB connection?

I was using two very old Samsung monitors. I replaced those with a single 43" Visio TV.

Any monitor that uses DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, HDMI, or DVI (with adaptor) should work. Depending on the ports you have, some of those may require some adaptor. DVI definitely would require adaptor.

Many of the current iPads can be used as an external monitor. https://www.apple.com/macos/big-sur/docs/Sidecar_Tech_Brief_Oct_2019.pdf

I am anticipating problems since there have been comments in the MAC user community when this question was asked. Can you please advise which external monitor you use that appears to work fine not using a USB connection? That may be an option I need to investigate since an external monitor is needed for my work. Thanks for your help.
