Can't send items to bin

Bit tricky guys. When I pick a file on the desktop to delete, the bar continuously goes back and forth. If I select the file and drag same thing happens, never deletes.

Also when I want open a, say, Excel file it will not open. The file is open on the dock but the file never moves to the program.

All this goes away when I restart the iMac OSX Monterey 12.0.1. I can delete etc. but eventually the problem pops up again and I have to restart.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, David

Yup Adguard is still installed on your system. The link to their uninstall instructions is Install/Uninstall | AdGuard Knowledgebase. Please use (or re-use if you already tried) and then restart in Safe Mode to clear caches and then restart normally. Then create another EtreCheck report and look through it for any parts of Adguard. If it is still there, you can either do:

  1. Erase and install to start over with a fresh system.
  2. You can use FindAnyFile (the free version) and have it search for anything that contains "Adguard" and move it to the Trash and then empty the Trash to see if you are finally rid of it.

It will help us get a good idea of what is causing your problem if you provide a report of your system, that way we do not have to play 20 questions with you. The report we are requesting does NOT provide any personal information and is extremely safe to use. Please navigate to www.Etrecheck.com and download the free version of EtreCheck. Once you have you downloaded the app and installed it, please run the report and save it.

When you have your report, you can attach it when you reply to this message and we can then review it and help you determine what is needed to get your system running well again.

For instructions on how to download your EtreCheck report and attach it to your reply to this message please click https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000211

The best antivirus, cleaning app, and overall maintenance app for Mac OS is Mac OS itself. All you need to do with Mac OS to keep it secure and running well is to keep it up-to-date and do periodic (about 1x per week) restarts. Other than that, leave it alone. Adding third party antivirus, cleaning, security and other types of maintenance apps to Mac OS adds no additional level of security. The only thing these apps do is have the opposite affect users want. They make Mac OS slow, unstable, generate odd behavior (much like you are experiencing) and make Mac OS appear buggy.

Please locate the developers uninstall instructions for Bitdefender & Adguard and follow to the letter.

Then restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac  and then restart normally and test. If they problem persists, please run a fresh EtreCheck report anf scan it to see if there are any pieces of Bitdefender & Adguard leftover, if there are please let us know and we can advise you how to get rid of those pieces.

Happy new year to you!

I have removed Bitdefender.

I also used the AdGuard site to remove everything they said.

But I still show AdGuard in my EtreCheck report and I can't find any reference to AdGuard on my Mac anywhere.

Should we just let the system run as normal now and if I get some of the original problems I can get back to you.

Thanks,

David
