You believe this involved SIM cloning, which involves cloning a SIM, and using that to spoof your iPhone to the cellular network. If this is SIM cloning, then the solution is a replacement SIM. A replacement SIM is something that would be provided by the carrier.

Cloning requires information from the SIM, whether acquired directly through physical access, or phished, or otherwise exposed.

Biometrics (Touch ID, Face ID) are not a replacement for robust and unique passwords. They’re intended as a means to use more robust passwords and passcodes and to enter those more robust passwords and passcodes as often. But they’re not intended nor implemented nor really can be replacements for passwords and passcodes.

Reviewing the Settings > Passwords > Security Recommendations report would be a good starting point for upgrading your own security, among other improvements.

The only way you can do it just buy a new iPhone or reformat your old iPhone and not open any texts or emails on that iPhone.

Cloning involves the SIM, and is not related to the contents of the iPhone.

If you suspect your SIM has been cloned, contact your carrier and get a new SIM.

The new SIM will then be the association between the cellular network and your iPhone.

I had the same problem -- receiving all kinds of questionable texts (ads for sex sites)--which was bad enough, but then I started getting "STOP" messages from unknown phone numbers as if I was sending this junk to them. I tried the "Text Killer" app and had some success, but more and more kept getting through. I went to my provider (Consumer Cellular) and they were able to solve the problem by changing my security code at their end, rather than me changing it with my phone. No SIM card necessary and not a single unwanted text has hit my phone since then.

The carrier had no idea. It’s has to Apple that can solve this problem with a finger print system on your IPhone and your desktop. They had the system on the iPhone and they stopped using the fingerprint system. They have it now on the desktop keyboard. I don’t think that Apple has figured out how to use it to prevent someone other than the owner of the iPhone to not have access to your electronic device. Maybe in the future they with stop the written password and only have the fingerprint and the eye to have access to your devices.
