Way to silence one app’s notification sound only when AirPods are connected?

I have a problem in that if I get a motion notification from my Ring doorbell app while my AirPods are in my ears, the sound is DEAFENING. (Google the sound and then imagine that in your earbuds at full volume.)

I almost never have the volume up over 50% when the AirPods are in but, without fail, the Ring app’s notification is always so loud it startles me, physically hurts my ears, and usually causes me to rip the AirPods out of my ears while cursing.

Does anyone know of there is a way (even with a Shortcut) to disable the Ring app’s sound notification while AirPods are connected?

Obviously I don’t want to permanently disable its notifications because I want to know when someone is at my door, but I’m actually worried that it’s disregard for the system’s volume settings is going to damage my ears.

Hello sarahfelldown,

Thanks for reaching out using Apple Support Communities!

We understand you'd like to lower the volume for the Ring app notification when using your AirPods.

If you adjust your ringer and alerts volume on the iPhone, does it change the volume of the notification or is it always louder than expected? Adjust the volume on iPhone - Apple Support

Are other notifications loud or only this one? If you're experiencing this only with notifications for the Ring app, try adjusting the volume level for App Alert Tones within the Ring app: How to Use Ring App Alert Tones – Ring Help

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
