cannot use AirDrop on Monterey

I have reinstalled Monterey but still can’t turn on airdrop and see airdrop option in finder sidebar. Have booted in safe mode, and reinstalled macOS Monterey. Am currently running 12.1 now. My iPhone can also not find my MacBook for AirDrop.

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

Hello MileHiMama35,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to use AirDrop between your iPhone and Mac. You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Use AirDrop on your Mac

Cheers!

I have this problem beginning with Monterey 12.1, and continued now with 12.2

What's rather concerning, you might even say alarming, is that when I tried to contact Apple Support regarding the issue I'm immediately disconnected from chat help, the one time I was able to get anything to show on the support popup. Further I commented my problem with Monterey regarding Airdrop and Bluetooth earlier this morning and received an email tonight that Apple removed my post because it mentioned the "B" version of iOS regards to only one of my Apple devices, totaling 5 if you don't count my iBook G4 that was bricked after a crossed update from Apple intended for Macbook...

Now with that out of the way. oh did I mention I'm billed monthly for iCloud storage I hardly use as well...

So I'll get to it in hopes my loyalty to Apple products so many years has not all been in vein.

My shining little Mac mini 2014 with a beautiful new Corsair 960Gb SSD ran perfectly and flawlessly transferred files and photos to and from my 2017 iPad Pro and my 2020 iPhone SE while running the last MacOS Catalina update, and continued to do so after the major upgrade to macOS Monterey 12.0.1

However after subsequently installing the 2nd iteration of MacOS Monterey 12.1 I could no longer send anything via Airdrop from my Mac, only receive from my devices. I had sincerely hoped this would be fixed with the recent 3rd release of Monterey 12.2 but alas NO it's STILL NOT WORKING!

I have tried everything I've seen posted on the web and nothing changes the fact that macOS Monterey latest is not capable of the seemingly simple task of sending a file or photo with airdrop. It looks like it should work as the device shows up and I can click until I'm blue in the face but nothing happens nothing is sent. Deleted the com.apple plist, restart, restart holding Option Command P + R, checked Focus/Notifications DND were turned off on Mac and iOS devices (I had never turned them on there isn't any need in my case). Turned off VPN on my phone, Antivirus on my Mac, etc. There is no solution, no setting no adjustment that can be made on my Mac that will change anything allowing Airdrop to send.

Conversely my Mac can receive airdrops from either of my devices, whether iOS 15.2, 15.3 or later it makes no difference.

What is obvious is that Mac OS 12.1 and 12.2 Monterey have for whatever reason set up a one way flow of information, in but not out concerning Airdrop, and they have not acknowledged the problem and would appear at this point at least from my perspective to be engaging in an activity more akin to censoring or silencing any request for help rather than directly addressing the issue.

I really don't know what else to say, other that I was mightily impressed with the graphic performance I read about the new M1 and had considered investment in another Apple product, until now... I think it's best my wallet stays as closed as Apple support for now. Maybe in a couple of years when they've hopefully had enough time to resolve the issue.

I have just installed Monterey on my MacBook Pro 2020 M1 and now am unable to use Airdrop (when I try to send something from my iPhone it finds the Mac but just says 'waiting' and never sends).

The Bluetooth tethering between the iPhone and Mac also does not work. It says the MacBook is an unsupported device.

I was hoping to find a solution on here but all I can see is that these issues have been happening for months and despite me installing the latest version of Monterey, seem to have been ignored by Apple so far.
