keyboard only working in Recovery Mode

My Macbook Pro Early 2015 keyboard + trackpad has stopped working. I was able to re-install macos (big Sur), the keyboard worked again for a few days then the same problem occured. I then factory reset the mac to El capitan. Keyboard worked fine. Updated again to Monterey, the keyboard worked again for a few days then now it is not working again. The command + R command works. Do I have to remain on my old OS since it looks like it only happens since Big Sur.

Keyoard and trackpad works fine with El Capitan

With a factory version of monterey the keyboard/trackpad stops working, in recovery mode all works fine.

Looks like it's not hardware so I most not be the only one with this problem?

Thank you for your advice.

Hey there, FrenchPilot,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities to get help with your MacBook Pro. If we understand, your MacBook Pro keyboard stops working in macOS Big Sur and later, but works in macOS El Capitan. We are happy to help!

Based on what you've described, we have a few troubleshooting steps we'd like you to try, outlined below. Follow them in order, testing between each:

  1. Reset the computer's System Management Controller (or SMC): How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support.
  2. See if the issue persists in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac
  3. See if the issue continues in a new user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Cheers!
