I took my iphone to a place called cell phone and pc repair to replace the screen that was cracked badly., and I still can’t get the face id to work. I took it there because they didn’t charge much to fix it because i am on disability.

What can i do about trying to fix the face recognition

iPhone 11, iOS 15

Hello,

Unfortunately, you will have to get your devices screen replaced through Apple, instead of a 3rd party retailer. The Face ID not working has nothing to do with how the screen was replaced, it is sort of a “lock” that Apple puts to prevent 3rd party repairs. The only way to fix it is to take it to Apple to get an Apple genuine screen.

Depends on who you ask though. There are some who make claims that Apple absolutely will refuse to service a device that's been serviced by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, almost like it's inexcusably going behind Apple's back. I think it's more nuanced than that.

If the place that did the work didn't physically damage your device, you might be able to ask for Apple to replace the front screen assembly and then properly pair the Face ID unit to the main board. But absent that, Apple simply won't help fix a malfunctioning third party replacement part.

Also - Apple won't do the replacement without an exchange, even if it's an aftermarket replacement that they likely won't attempt to rebuild or reuse some of the parts like they might a genuine one that's exchanged.
