MBP M1 Pro battery draining really quickly

My new Macbook Pro M1 Pro 14' drains really quickly on battery - more than 20% an hour - doing just reading PDFs using adobe. I know this isn't an adobe problem because using other programs in isolation (Word, safari, etc) makes it drain even faster. I've closed all unnecessary background programs, switched off bluetooth, location, siri and pro-motion, turned low battery use mode on when on battery and checked that the OS is up to date. The battery drain is really terrible despite all this.. Any ideas what might be wrong?

I'm having the same issue. I bought the m1 pro 14 just a month ago, and if I get about 5 hours with light usage. I do not have Chrome installed. Just doing some YouTube, Word and 2 zoom calls. I lost 40% in under 2 hours. Any ideas? I'm in the latest OS 12.3.1. Any ideas? or should I take it to a genius bar? Thanks

Went to Apple and Here’s the result

DIAGNOSIS: They did battery testing and mine was charging to 99% - basically no issues

SOLUTION:

1) Try not to use Chrome OR leave a lot of Chrome tabs open. This is the main battery drainer

2) Be sure to actually turn off your computer at least Once a week.

I did this and it works.

The issue is not in the hardware but how we use it. Also MacBook Air M1 is most efficient as it doesn’t have a fan and thus the battery seems to last longer.

MacBook Pro M1 has fans so it also kicks in resulting in more battery drainage.

PS. I still you chrome as it’s for me the best browser. But I now close everything and don’t leave open chrome tabs as well as shut down my computer every week. The result has been great actually

TRY IT.

Looks like this wasn't a isolated issue. My MBP 16/M1Pro also drains battery extremely fast, I am at 26% after less than 3hours of usage.

I am already on latest MacOS 12.4, it was auto updated always.

I do NOT use Chrome so can't blame google.

Activity monitor says Firefox was the biggest energy user at 20

Any idea how to fix this?

going from a supposedly 20hour battery to 4 hour battery is kinda extreme

I'll place a guess that some of the users experiencing battery issues are also experiencing trackpad issues? I don't know if there is a correlation but my battery life is somewhat dead too, and trackpad works erratically.

For a 3000 bucks laptop, this is quite upsetting. Battery even drains unusually while on 'sleep' :(
