Quicktime works with Airplay and Apple TV but TV app does not. How do I fix?

As stated, I can open a movie or TV show in the TV app on my MacBook Pro but my living room Apple TV is grayed out as an Airplay device. However, if I "Show in Finder" and then play the TV show or movie in Quicktime I can Airplay it to my Apple TV.

I've tried the TV app built into Apple TV but that only shows TV shows I've purchased, not movies and clips I've made myself.

Any ideas on how to fix? I had to set the Apple TV to the lowest possible security setting (i.e. allow anyone to stream to this Apple TV) to get Quicktime to work but at least it works. The TV app, however, doesn't.
