disable automatic sheet calculations

Can I prevent Numbers doing calculations automatically during editing sheets (to save time for huge sheets which are heavily filled with formulas)

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.13

There is no way to turn it off. Numbers may allow a lot of rows and columns but when your spreadsheet gets large it is really slow calculating when compared to Excel, like taking minutes versus a split second. If you can enter data in cells not connected to any formulas then copy/paste them as a block into their proper place, it won't have to "calculate" until you paste them. It may still have a delay for each time you enter data but not like if it had to recalculate each time.

Whatever it is that Excel does is amazingly fast. I hope Apple figures it out and applies it to Numbers, if they can.
