Some contacts not backing up to icloud

I have an iphone 12, purchased in Aprili 2021. I am running backup following all the instructions.

Tap apple ID, tap icloud, Contacts - enabled/green. iCloud drive - enabled/green. iCloud backup - On.

I tap Back Up Now, and it appears to run, and updates the time last backed up.

Next I log in to iCloud using my home computer and go to contacts. I search for select contacts and they are not in the list, even after backing up.

Note - I had no trouble with contacts until yesterday 1/2/22, when a number of my contacts disappeared from my phone. The only reason I knew this is that recent calls, favorite contacts, and text messages previously showing my contact's name now show only their phone number.

I was on the phone with Verizon for TWO HOURS yesterday, transferred to supervisors and all of that, only for them to conclude this was an apple problem and not a Verizon problem.

Any help would be appreciated.
