I have ordered a new M1 MacBook Pro but it won't ship until Jan 21-24. Can I wait until then to ship my trade-in for the preliminary credit? I need my current machine until I have the new one. I wasn't certain if Apple needs the trade-in before the new device ships.

I did the trade in step online when I made the purchase so I think it’s a matter of just getting the return kit first, and once I have my new laptop I can send it in for credit. Doesn’t seem there’s a rigid time limit or sequence of steps you gave to follow in any given order.
I cannot find a time limit on when you have to send it in but I did find that it says if you keep it you wont get credit. What I force happening is that you get your new device and then send the old one in and they give you credit but you can't apply that to the new purchase since its too late. Apple Trade In - Apple
