I did not get a prepaid wifi plan for my GMC. I prefer to use my data plan and wifi on my phone. To activate apple car play wirelessly in my truck, the phone is connecting to the wifi of the truck. But given that wifi do not have any data plan and internet connection, I cannot use any data or any app while using wireless apple car play. How can this be ?
From what I could find, Wireless CarPlay requires both a bluetooth connection and a WiFi access point (your vehicle) to work. You can still plug into the port and use CarPlay tethered to your phone and cellular network if your vehicle supports the connection.
It connects the CarPlay initially using BT and then connects to the car via WiFi which is much faster. Your iPhone doesn't need to connect to two different WiFi's, it should be using cellular data for connection to the internet and the WiFi signal to talk to the head unit in the car.

So may I ask you if your phone MUST be connected to the BMW wifi to enable wireless Apple Car play ? If not, this is why you can still have access to your mobile network datas and internet.
In my Denali 3500 HD (top specs, so not missing an option...), the phone MUST be connected to the truck wifi to enable AppleCar play and given an Iphone can only be connected to ONE wifi, well it can access its mobile network at the same time.
If BMW do not force the phone to connect to the car wifi, I will definitly call GM but would like to hear you before. Thanks
I have Wireless CarPlay on my BMW (also on my last one), do not pay for the in-car WiFi and do not have the problem you are referring to. Have you spoken to someone at GMC tech support.
Yes you are right thank you. But isn't it a bit weird that GMC is selling a wireless carplay and a wireless charging pad in your truck when in reality if you need to access datas from your phone mobile network, you will have to go WIRED and then making both the wireless carplay AND the wireless charging pad completely useless given you are WIRED.
So the added value of wireless carplay and battery charging is basically ...none
I will then used my cable to connect my phone....like I was doing with my pre-2021 vehicles which did not had that feature....and they call this progress...
