try restarting your Mac.

Ry connecting in Safe Mode.

Try creating a new, custom-named Network Location, which creates a brand new bundle of settings, packages them up in a named location-file, makes them all active just by selecting that named location. When you go to the coffee shop, DON'T change your settings one-by-one, create a new named location file for that place.

That means the Mac was unable to get an IP from your Wi-Fi router. Check that your router is set correctly to DHCP to hand out IP addresses automatically, or if set to manual assignment, that you then manually configure a correct IP address on your Mac.

You can go to System Preferences->Network->Advanced->TCP/IP, and make sure its set to DHCP in the "Configure IPV4" dropdown. Then click on the Renew DHCP Lease. It should hopefully assign an IP address then.

every device provides itself with temporary self-assigned IP address to identify it to the Router. Within seconds, if a Router is available and settings are appropriate, you will get a "good" local IP address using DHCP from your Router. Being stuck with a self-assigned IP address says, " no one will deal with me".

Typical problem are more often "too far from Router" and are rarely configuration issues.
