Cannot fix 2-step authenticator on iphone

Error message says "code entered does not match one sent to phone." A common solution is supposed to be fixed by doing time correction sync. When following instructions, I get no prompts for this to be performed. Would like to delete this authenticator altogether. Deleting app off phone doesn't correct anything and neither does turning authenticator off. Desperately need a fix. I'm locked out of the account on which I was using the 2-step authenticator. Help please.

You will have to check the instructions for the authenticator. Normally you delete it from your phone (actually delete, don’t just remove from the Home screen), restart your phone, then add it back and reregister it. But check the provider’s instructions.
