Why do the Beats Fit Pro always say "Connection Failed" on multiple MacBook Pros I own?

Here's everything I've tested with and still cannot get the 2015/18 machines to connect:

Phone/iPad/Apple TV no problem.

Nov 2018 15" MBP – nope. (Mojave)

2015 rMBP – nope. (Catalina 10.15.7)

2021 16" MBP – yes, but initially no. (Monterey 12.1)

Reset SMC and NVRAM.

Deleted the bluetooth .plist and restarted.

Reset the Beats.

Reset the bluetooth modules.

Forgot device countless times.

I can pair AirPod 2G zero issue and other BT headphones, but these – nope. Blown away how bad this experience has been and clearly from what you see above I know how to deal with BT issues, but I'm at a the point where I'm out of options.

Not a hardware issue on the Beats end. I've been methodical about testing to root that out. It's a software issue on the Mac. Here's what I did to solve the problem, but YMMV:

In Terminal with root access:

  1. Wipe out the plist for Bluetooth
  2. Wipe out both .plist files in /Preferences/Audio (you need root for this)

Then:

  1. Reset the Beats headphones holding the pairing button for 15 seconds.
  2. Restart and wipe NVRAM (Cmd+Opt+P+R held until you get the second boot sound)
  3. Pair to the Mac first before anything else.
  4. Do a happy dance.

Sounds like a hardware issue with the Beats Fit Pro

If hardware there is no software fix. Contact Beats—
