Why can't I right click on my desktop anymore?

I am using A MacBook Air M1 with MacOS Monterey.

I used to be able to right click anywhere on my desktop and it would bring up a menu with options like "Change desktop background, New Folder, Delete Folder, etc.." I can't click on files on my desktop anymore either. I used to be able to right click and see a drop down menu that would have options like "Open, delete, move to, etc..."

However, I can right click in any other program to bring up the drop down menu for that specific program. And I can right click when I'm inside of finder, but not on the desktop any more. DId I somehow disable right clicking only on my desktop?

I have already been in my System Preferences>Mouse and the "Secondary Click" is enabled. Again I can right click everywhere except my desktop.

Hey there ElMasry93,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're unable to right-click on your desktop. We're happy to provide some assistance.

Make sure your Mac is updated to the latest available version:

Update macOS on Mac

See if you can Control-click as outlined here:

Right-click on Mac

If the issue persists, test to see if this occurs in safe mode to help isolate the problem:

Start up your Mac in safe mode

We hope this helps.

Have a great day!
