superdrive not working on new M1 Macbook Pro

Have new M1 MacBook Pro (2021) and new Apple superdrive. Using Apple USB-C to USB cable to connect. Trying to play a commercial DVD (movie). Computer recognizes DVD and Title of DVD and automatically tries to play, but get black screen. This same Superdrive and cable work fine with new M1 iMac (2021). No issues. So Superdrive is fine and cable is fine. Issue appears to be with new M1 MacBook Pro. Any suggestions are helpful.

Hi,

I think MacBook Pro is not able to supply enough power to external Superdrive. You need get and connect self powered USB Hub which supplies enough power to the Superdrive.

Thanks for the response. I can hear the drive spinning and the viewing window opens and shows the DVD title, but just stays black, no image or sound. I found similar info in my searching. So why does Apple say they're compatible when using their USB-C to USB cable?
