Setup Yahoo! mail account as POP

Although it used to work, I can no longer get my Yahoo! email account to work as a POP account under High Sierra, Mojave, or even Catalina. Since I can't upgrade beyond Catalina, I can't test anything newer but since this issue is persistent across older versions of macOS, it's a Mail or Internet Accounts problem, since I can set this up in Thunderbird with no problem.

So, what must we do now to get this to work like it should? Apple has known about this problem for years and never documented the formerly working wrkaround, or fixed the underlying problem.

Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Might try this, it's Chrome Browser without google & without Ads...

So, you're not going to try the App PW?

But I have nothing that uses iOS, and the only time I ever check their web interface is if I think I got something and it went to Spam when it shouldn't have. But even that doesn't work right, since I can't select individual messages or groups of messages and move or delete them. Yahoo! claims it's my version of macOS because they don't support, but that can't be true, since it worked perfectly fine before mid-July of last year, and it works perfectly fine if I use my VMware virtual Windows 7 system.

Even their web pages don't look right anymore: they're all text and no graphics, like the Internet looked back in the Ancient Times of Netscape.

Safe Boot has no effect; nothing changes. I've never been asked to create or use an App password for Yahoo! Mail; I can login and view messages without any problem. What I can't do is select individual or groups of messages in their webmail client to move or delete — but I can do that if I go through my Windows 7 VM, which also isn't supported anymore by Yahoo! and I've never been asked for an App password there, either.

But since I can get my mail using POP with Thunderbird, this looks like an issue with Mail, not macOS.

Yes, that is interesting, since before now Brave showed the exact same thing as the screen shot of Safari, which was the same in Firefox. But the fact that it works perfectly fine on Windows 7 VM (which Yahoo! doesn't support anymore), seems to suggest that they're targeting Mac browsers below a certain version, even when there's no new feature from those newer browsers that's being used by their sites.

And it still doesn't explain or solve the problem of not being able to access Yahoo! Mail via POP with Mail.app.
