Photos - Cannot edit.

Hello everyone,

Has anyone come across the following problem in 'Photos' ? :

I try editing older photos, and I get a message that those said photos are in an unsupported format.

This, despite being able to edit them previously on my Mac.

Has something changed with recent updates?

Thanks

Since the upgrade to macOS 10.15 Catalina some media formats are no longer supported. The upgrade to Catalina deprecated some system frameworks that have been needed to handle older image image formats and video formats. These system frameworks contained 32 bit code that is no longer available in the newer 64-but only system versions.

All media file in a legacy format should have been converted to a more compatible format while while we had still been using an older system version that could handle these formats. I used this list for iMovie to screen my Photos Library for legacy media files: About legacy media in iMovie for macOS - Apple Support

You could try to convert the files, that Photos no longer can open, using third party software, for example Graphic Converter.

Which system version is running on the old Mac?

If the system version is macOS 10.14 or older, you can try to identify the photos that cannot be edited on your new Mac, then try to find them in Photo on the old Mac and export them there from Photos as a JPEG or a TIFF file. use these files on your new Mac to replace the photos that cannot be edited.

I imported photos from old Mac.

They seem to be OK. I can edit them.

But the function 'Revert to original' isn't available.

I'll probably just have to live with that.

And for now, I'm using an external hard drive to transfer the photos...I tried AirDrop...but no connection between the computers seems to be available.

Thanks / Merci
