iTunes folder on Monterey OS

Hello -

I recently bought a new M1 MacBook Pro 16" running Monterey (12.1), and used Time Machine to transfer all the data and settings from my old MacBook Pro. I have performed that same TM transfer on my last 4 or 5 MacBooks, and suddenly realized that, even though Apple discontinued the iTunes app in favor of the newer Music and TV apps, all my music, movie and TV show files are still in an iTunes folder in my user library (User --> Music --> iTunes --> iTunes Media).

The Music and TV apps work perfectly, so the out-of-date filling structure appears to have no ill effect; but I wonder if I should take any any action to "fix" the location of the files. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

Shelly

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you want to fix it the default media folder should be ~/Music/Music/Media. You can reset the media folder and consolidate if you have the room, then delete the old iTunes Media folder after fact, assuming you've also consolidated any video content in the TV app, and imported your audiobooks into Books. If you don't have room to temporarily double up on the storage for music you can try manually moving the Music folder from ../iTunes/iTunes Media to into ~/Music/Music/Media rather than consolidating. Move the folder back if Music has trouble locating your files.
