iPhone 8 se touch screen completely non-responsive, buttons work, how to fix?

Daughters iPhone 8SE's touchscreen has stopped working. Was working, a restart (up/down/hold power) worked once, but not a 2nd time a few hours later. Currently can't enter passcode or swipe, etc.

A local shop tried swapping out the battery and the screen.

Any suggestions?

iPhone SE, iOS 15

Could be a damaged connector or perhaps a damaged connection to the touch control chip. However, I'd think a third party shop might know of that possibility and test the connector.

I'm not normally one to criticize anyone for seeking third-party repair, but was this third party repair? If so, there's the possibility that it's going to be difficult to get Apple to fix anything, especially with the possibility that they damaged something in the process of opening it up. However, I would still recommend getting an appointment with an Apple Store (if convenient) and seeing what they might be able to do.

We live in rural Missouri - the nearest Apple store is at least 90 miles away, if not further. We took it to a USCellular store and all they were interested in doing was selling us a new phone. We have had screens replaced at this 3rd party and been happy with their service. In fact, after trying a new battery and a new screen, he didn't charge us a dime. Suspect 98+% of what this 3rd party does is screen and battery replacements.

What you describe makes perfect sense. The phone is out of warranty. It is responsive... things like the touchid button work, you can power cycle it, but the screen itself is completely non-responsive to any touch input - like when you try and enter your access code.

Yeah - I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and there are over a dozen Apple Stores within 15 miles of home for me, so it's easy for me to recommend that. But I really like that option because I've never been charged for any kind of diagnostic service. They obviously have the means to do things that a third party shop simply can't do, such as pair TouchID/FaceID if the connection is broken to the processor.

However, there are limits to what a third party shop can do. And of course there's the possibility that your daughter's iPhone is simply not worth repairing. I'll point out that if there's anything on the logic board that's damaged, Apple will not repair it. They will simply offer a replacement for the out of warranty replacement price that applies to most major issues such as a trashed device or water damage.

But then, good luck. If you have some time, see if Apple can do it for you. One option you might have is to mail it in. The only caveat is that you're supposed to note that it was handled by a third party repair shop.
