Just switched from generation 1 pencil to generation 2 pencil. Got new iPad Pro 12.9 2021. How do you close an app without action button? New pencil won’t sweep up to minimize. Do you have to switch to finger every time?

Hi Grogtroglodyte,

We understand you're trying to close apps on an iPad. We're happy to offer some guidance.

You are correct in using your finger. Apple Pencil is designed to work in applications, however when it comes to closing and opening applications, it will not do that. This is by design, to prevent applications from accidentally getting minimized/closed when someone is drawing in them near the bottom edge.

To minimize an app, you'll just want to swipe up with your finger on the bottom of the screen. To close an app, you'll want to swipe up from the bottom of the home screen with your finger, then in the grid of open apps, swipe up on the one you want to close.

Quit and reopen an app on iPad

Use Apple Pencil with your iPad

Hope this helps. Cheers!
