Apple Watch series 7 - apps don't open in grid view, do open. in list view

I've been using my new series 7 watch in list view for a while & all apps work. Today I tried out the grid view and none of the apps open. I don't know if the grid view screen isn't working right or if the apps aren't working or if it's something else.

I had to use my iPhone watch app to switch the watch back to list view.

I tried restarting it, which didn't work.
