Does an iOS update close tabs that are open on Safari/Chrome?

Just rephrasing: does an iOS update erase/close open tabs on Safari/Chrome?

I'll just add to that the following: I'm on iOS 10, thinking to upgrade to iOS 15.

Another device is running iOS 11.1, also want to update to the latest iOS version, so same question applies.

Can I do the update without any worry or should I backup all 500 open tabs before?

How about private tabs? Are they also at risk of disappearing after such an update?

Thanks in advance

Hey greenkam,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you have a few questions about updating iOS and the impact on your Safari tabs. We're happy to help.

When updating iOS, it is not meant to erase any data on your device, this includes Safari tabs that are saved or open. You should not experience a negative impact on your data when updating. However, Apple always recommends to have a backup of your data as a fail safe: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. You could also consider using iCloud to save Safari data across your devices: Use tabs in Safari on iPhone.

Best regards.
