Apple Music on iPhone not reflecting changes made on Mac

Ongoing issue that others seem to have had. Whenever I edit a song or album on Apple Music on the new Mac it used to translate changes made to titles and artwork covers etc and no longer does. Both devices are up to date on software, both haev SYNC LIBRARY turned on. I think the iCloud server is getting confused between devices. It is also grouping Artists that are not the same and calling albums buy single names. I was told this time last year that it may have been to do with the fact I was signed up to Beta. I turned that off alst year and everything suddenly worked a short while after but now the issue has returned out of nowhere. Is this glitches in software being released by Apple that triggers this issue? Very frustrating as I like all my collection to translate across my devices, having been a paying member of Apple Music for years. I used to have iTunes Match but that has ceased to be now. I believed with Sync Library that this had the same capabilities.

I could well be wide of the mark, but are you using AirPlay? It seems that iTunes/Music can have trouble saving metadata changes when AirPlay is active. Something else you can try is option-starting Music and using the choose library option to explicitly select your music library, normally ~/Music/Music/Music Library.musiclibrary. It seems sometimes Music may open a cached copy of the library that it doesn't update.

Hello PAuldbaker24,

Thanks for reaching out through the Apple Support Communities about those changes not syncing across your devices.

Does that behavior still persist after toggling the Sync Library option off and back on? Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music

Are you facing difficulties with syncing any other content, such as contacts or photos?

Also, does restarting both devices have any impact on this behavior, even if only temporarily?

Restart your iPhone

Shut down or restart your Mac

Hopefully those details will help to isolate this behavior further.

Take care.

I was on the phone yesterday for around an hour and a half to 3 different people and I’m being told that it’s to do with the metadata on Apple Music. I don’t believe this as I have been able to make changes my library for years and it translate over to phone instantly.

I used to pay for iTunes Match but now Sync Library does the same thing through Apple Music. It was working up to about a week ago. I had this problem about a year ago and it always affects the same songs.

I have checked both software and it’s on the latest. Sync Library switched on and off no difference. What I do notice is that doing the Sync Library fixes it for anything between 1 hour and a day and then it reverts all the changes again. It’s so random. Usually whenever I make an edit I have my phone up too and I can see the edit being changed on my phone too. Now it does not do anything.

No photos or contacts issue. I believe it’s an issue with the iCloud server not holding the changes and applying them on my iPhone. Everything is OK on my Mac.

Restarting the devices does not change anything either. I’d really like to get to the bottom of this to force the change through if it happens again. Someone must know what causes this issue. Even Senior Technical Advisors cannot tell me what is causing it and are instead blaming it on the fact that Artists need to be paid and I cannot group other artists together. This is just not true as I have been able to make whatever edits for years, something just flips once in a while and causes the revert. I haven’t done anything recently to cause this. The only other thing I can think is it is something in the new software each time that resets it??

I will give an annoying example. A song by The Weeknd and Post Malone would be released as the artist The Weeknd & Post Malone. This would cause a separate artist to be created in my Artists library list The Weeknd and then The Weeknd & Post Malone. Post Malone is the featured artist meaning I would change the album artist from The Weeknd & Post Malone to The Weeknd to then group this with The Weekend’s songs and not separate. It now won’t let me change it to that on iPhone and only on Mac.

thanks in advance for any help

I have had a similar issue on and off for a few years (currently running an M1 iMac/iPhone 12/iPad mini 5 all with latest updates). I will work perfectly for a while and then start again. At least now the issue - at least for me - is more when I want to change the metadata (like the genre - I hate the POP listing LOL). Adding and deleting songs/albums seem to work back and forth between my devices. At least this time it is only effecting the Music app as I had a similar issue a few weeks ago and it also effected my Calendars and Photo Library.
