External monitor loosing signal for a moment

Hello,

I have MacBook Air 2021 M1, external monitor Dell U2718Q connected by Belkin cord - USB-C - DisplayPort and from time to time my monitor goes black, appear "Scanning for signal" or "No DP signal from your device" and suddenly it goes back... it is irritating when you work on both screens and then for 2-3 sec everything goes black, all windows rearrange.

I have already tried:

  • HDMI 4K and 8K cable - the same effect - connected via APPLE MUF82ZM/A
  • another HDMI 8K cable - connected via APPLE MUF82ZM/A and Satechi hub V2

MacOS Monterey 12.1

Thank you in advance for any clue what can I do to avoid loosing signal from my mac.

Greg

Hi greg_AirM1,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! Sounds like you are running into an issue with your external display disconnecting from your Mac. Have you tested the monitor with a different Mac to see if the same thing occurs?

You should check for any firmware update for the display itself.

You can also use the steps here: If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry on your Mac to troubleshoot.

Hope that helps!

Hi!

Thanks for the hint, but I used to work with this monitor with my previous MacBook Pro (i7) and there were no such issues, moreover - my previous MBPro could use more than one external monitor...

Both devices are up to date with its software - already tried this.

And it is not a problem of detection or blurry - everything is perfect.

For me it looks like the signal for usb-c port is being lost and is not transferred through cable to the monitor (both ports works the same) - an issue with power stabilisation on the motherboard or something else. Unfortunately - I do not have specialised tools to measure or check this - it is only my suspicion.

Problem still exists...

I will have opportunity to work with this monitor with MacBook Pro M1extreme soon, so I will update it.

Thanks for the hints...

Greg
