I read on another thread that iMovie conversion to Facebook/YouTube degrades the sound quality which I have experienced with my iMovie video. I also read that Apple was looking to fix this bug. Has a fix been applied or in progress?

I looked at the version history for iMovie 10. A year ago iMovie 10.2.2 added the share option for You Tube and Facebook. I don't see any later updates that deal with the subject. I am not aware of whether an update is in progress, but there may be one. .
You might try sharing out the iMovie project simply as an ordinary file to your desktop, and from there dragging it into the You Tube upload window. I've not uploaded a video to Facebook, but its website probably has a similar procedure. See if that resolves your issue.
