screen time

When launching Music - starting today - I get a prompt that reads 'Restrictions are now in Screen Time'. Screen Time is off (never turned on) on all of my devices. This is coming up on my Mac only - iPhone opens Music properly. Screen Time prompt offers 'continue', 'open Screen Time' and 'quit'. When choosing 'continue', I get a prompt that says 'Music wants to make changes. Enter your password to allow this.'


The prompts look like genuine Apple prompts, but no idea what could have changed to bring this up. Anyone?

I suggest you go into your Mac Settings and make sure that Screen Time is turned off firstly.


Turn off Screen Time on your Mac

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Screen Time . ... 
  2. If you're using Family Sharing, click the pop-up menu in the sidebar, then choose yourself. ... 
  3. Click Options in the lower-left corner of the sidebar.
  4. Click Turn Off in the upper-right corner

If You Forgot Your Screen Time Passcode - Apple Support

Hello Stuant423,


Very sorry about that. I thought maybe Screen Time had accidentally been enabled on your Mac. I’ve had it turn on by itself and off by itself on my devices more times that I can count (I think that’s my issue with having multiple iPhones in my possession ans extremely restricted and logged into my main Apple ID) As for this issue, are you saying you are unable to play music at all on your Mac?


I don’t know if this will help at all, it’s been almost a year since I had a MacBook last, but after seeing this, I thought this might help:


How to Manage Restrictions in Parental Controls

  1. Click the Apple () symbol in the top left corner of your Mac's screen and select System Preferences....
  2. Select the Parental Controls preferences pane.
  3. Click the lock in the lower left corner of the window.
  4. Enter your admin password if prompted and click Unlock.

I don't know if I can play music on my MAC. I am not willing to go beyond the prompts encouraging me to enter my Apple ID in order to get past the prompts. If these are genuine Apple prompts that were installed with an upgrade (I have my upgrades set to automatic) then I'm happy to explore more and see what the deal is. However, having never launched Screen Time and having this just show up out of the blue is concerning. I have used Music as recently as this last weekend with no issues.
