Heart Rate symbol meaning

Can you advise what the symbol shown below means? When checking HR, the watch occasionally does not record any number but rather returns the symbol. There does not seem to be any pattern or reason why it happens and it has only started happening in the last few days after working flawlessly for a number of months.
