Accidental calling of favorites on hang up on my iPhone

For the last year or so, I've had a problem where I go to end a call which is over by clicking end call, but the other person hangs up first, and the screen change back to the "favorites" or "Recent calls" list, causing me to initiate a call with whoever was below the end call button. I have an iPhone 11, and this never happened with my previous iPhones. It seems something must have changed around that time.

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening? The person who is 8th on my favorites list is getting kind of annoyed.

PLEASE FIX THIS....It happens multiple time's per week...you go to hit the end call button but the screen disappears at the same time bc the other person hung up faster...you then click one of your favorites by accident...When a call ends, it should close out the phone app all together and you should be looking at your home screen after a call...PLEASE FIX THIS

This is crazy. My sister is getting tired of me calling her, when I am just trying to hang up the phone. I wish there was a setting to just take us back to the Home Screen if a call ends. Apple needs to fix this. Actually considering going back to Android for this one user interface flaw.

Use the sleep/wake button to end the call.

Just wanted to thank sejin208 for this workaround!

“This is iOS 17+ only, temporary workaround. It's not perfect and has its own limit.
At least you won't call someone accidently by hanging up little too late.

1. Open Shortcuts app (It's integrated in iOS)
2. Tap "Automation" at the bottom of the screen
3. Tap "New Automation".
4. Scroll down and tap "App".
5. Tap "Choose" and select "Phone" then "Done".
6. Unmark "Is Opened" and mark "Is Closed". (Make sure ONLY "Is Closed" is marked.)
7. Mark "Run immediately"
8. Tap "Next" at the top right.
9. On the screen, tap "New Blank Automation".
10. Tap "Add Action".
11. Type in "go to" in the search box and tap "Go to Home Screen" that pops up below.
12. Tap "Done".”

Works for me, no more accidental calls from Recents list. Hopefully they fix it one day.

Wow. Seems like an awful lot of work when you could just push one button. But, if it works for you, that's great.

Not really… less than a minute to setup vs. totally changing the habit of the way I use the phone. Easy choice. But as you said, what ever workaround works for someone, it’s all good.

Why this is a huge problem is the other people who have the same issue. You can’t influence them or point them to the forum to implement workarounds. They don’t care to waste significant time to deal with it. I think this will be fixed at some point, but I guess there are other priorities atm.

Seeing that this thread is from early 2022 and that there are plenty of posts in it still in 2024, can someone please pin a link to a formal request that Apple actually reads where we can add our voices to the request? This issue happens to me daily. They could offer some options to what happens when the other party ends the call (i.e. lock screen)

Could someone please forward me the contact number of the apple software engineer in charge of this issue. I want to enter it in my favorite list at the same position the end call icon will appear. I suggest you all do the same to ease the burden on actual favorites unfortunate enough to be placed in that position. I do suggest though that you be very courteous and show empathy to them as they will be returning many calls from random numbers.

This has been issue for years now, im running construction business with iphone and most of the time you want to hang up screen changes because other person was quicker so your call screen is overlaying recent calls..

solution is so simple, it would take couple hours for apple to fix and release new update.

when answering or calling, it should keep home screen behind calling screen automatically, or keep calling screen while we hit red button or swipe, dont turn off screen automatically please, causing to accidentally tap whatever us behind the call screen. Call goes thru everytime even from the tap..

Like has been said before but should be stressed again: the truly annonying part is that you cannot undo the placed call - I’m pretty sure there used to be a slight delay so you could hang up a misplaced call in earlier iOS:s. Now it immediatly goes through or creates a push notification, and then an unnecessary callback and need for an explanation etc 🤬.

If Apple fixed this first, there would be much less of a need to also fix the (equally idiotic) return-to-favourites-when-other-party-hangs up design flaw.

If you hang up immediately, it never shows on the other end. I know that because if I'm not paying attention, I sometimes tap a Recent call entry instead of swiping to delete it. It's never been a problem to just end the call immediately.

Or, you could just end the call using the button on the side.

I agree. Add a 1 second delay between one call to another. You can even have a switch in settings to toggle on and off if others don't like it. It usually is the other person hangs up first while I'm in motion to hang up. It dials the next person and I hang up from that call. Then they see they missed a call from me and call me back. Huge inconvenience and waste of time for everyone.
