Activation lock and forgotten password

After an update my son’s phone has brought up the activation lock. Unfortunately we can’t remember the password.

All of the suggestions to reset password lead to codes being sent to the phone but because the activation lock is on they aren’t being received. Can’t log into email either because of the forgotten password.

please can anybody help how to overcome this issue?!

If he is using a 3rd party email address as his Apple ID email address, have you tried going to the email provider's web site to access the password reset email?


Enter the Apple (iCloud) ID, and click Forgot Password. See if you can get a Rescue or Notification email option. Link to contact Apple Support at the end of the 2nd article.
