Homepod won't connect to new iphone

Homepod is powered on and will play music, but won't do any commands, like add an item to my grocery list.

HomePod will not connect to iPhone I had just bought a HomePod. I set it up and connected it to Wi-Fi. When I turn it on it plays random music and it won’t play the music from my phone. I thought it would easily connect to my phone but it doesn’t. It keeps saying pairing was unsuccessful. Is there something else I need to do?

Check the settings in the Home app (gear icon)(there’s a whole section of Siri-related settings), and make sure there are no updates waiting.
