Mystery cracking of back of iPhone 12 Pro nax

iPhone 12 Pro Max has been in Apple case - with the Charging ring in, since purchase, never taken out case. I have recently taken it out case to show to my wife who I have just bought an iPhone 12 for. I discovered the back is all glazed with cracks. Phone has never been dropped and always been in the case . Have there been any other instances of unexplained cracking of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I bought the expensive Apple case expecting good protection, and of course it is out of AppleCare cover, and too expensive to repair

You don't ask a question in your post so I'll assume you are wanting to know if Apple will fix or replace the phone free of charge. The answer is no, accidental damage is not covered and it’s out of warranty anyway. The best advice that can be offered is if the phone is in working order just put it back in the case and go on using it. And also no, the back doesn’t cack for no reason. It was stressed at some point.

There could be the occasional point defect that leads to spontaneous cracking. It takes a little bit of stress, but not beyond what an iPhone would normally experience. It wouldn't cause a rash of cracks all over though.
