Last week these TEXTS showed up / mirrored in both locations ( a functional requirement I have )
( I would assume it is from a computer itself, ie bank )
It's not irrelevant as your computer is not capable of receiving SMS messages unless it is properly paired with your iPhone.
See here:
And yes, sometimes it comes undone and you have to set it up again.
If you would have said you only receive messages from iPhones I would have replied with:
Make sure SMS message forwarding is still set up
Make sure you read the *
* Don't see the Text Message Forwarding setting on your iPhone? Go to Settings > Messages, turn off iMessage, turn it back on, tap Send & Receive, tap Use Your Apple ID for iMessage, then sign in with the same Apple ID used on your other devices.

Is it possible you have more than 5 devices on the same Apple account?
When I installed a new iMac last month, I had to deactivate ALL my devices and reactivate just 5.
I had never deactivated 4 older devices (iPhones, iPad and two other computers), even though they were all shutdown.
I found a FIX ( strange why it would break with upgrading 12 to 12.1 )
On Phone > Turn iMessage On to OFF and back ON
Thanks for the insight
Are the missing messages from non-Apple phones?
It is relevant since sometimes a Mac with will lose message forwarding which gets a message from non-iPhones to a Mac and prevents a Mac from sending messages to non-Apple iphone.
It should had been a computer-generated text ( ie bank )
No Phone involved on generation
Not a NEW computer - updated the MacOS end of last week to 12.1
