Trash icon missing from Mac Mail

How to recover trash icon for Mac Mail?

The solution doesn't make obvious sense but it works.


  1. Click the + sign to the right of iCloud and it will pop up a windows to create a new folder. Name it whatever you want ... if won't matter. Call it "This is Stupid" ... it doesn't matter.
  2. Go to mail preferences - accounts - highlight icloud - mailbox behaviors. On the drop down to the right of trash mailbox: choose your new folder as where you want the trash to go.
  3. Somehow ... it will get magically transformed into a trash icon that you can move back into place where it should be.


Short explanation is that you create a temporary folder titled "test", "future trash" ... just doesn't matter because when you choose it to be where you want trash to go .... that folder will morph into a trash icon.
