iPhone 13 pro max poor camera quality

This is my first iPhone, I’m all in on the ecosystem with a new MacBook and iPad, which I absolutely love. But the photo quality has been very disappointing I’m coming from a one +7 pro and while the photos are usually slightly better in some cases or worse. And my wife has a Samsung S 11 Pro and those photos are far superior in almost every situation which really surprised me. I’ve done a lot of Google searches and YouTube videos on how to best use the camera but I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or not it’s just surprisingly mediocre at best.

natural light pictures are good ,low light is really grainy/bad, macro is almost impossible to focus. I’m just kind of frustrated because I spent big bucks hoping to get the best but my wife’s phone which is much older and a couple hundred bucks cheaper is actually taking far superior photos in every situation. Even some of my friends with iPhone 11s and 12s seem to take better pictures consistently.
