Ipod shuffle 2nd gen light won't turn on nor will the computer recognize it

I got a used Ipod Shuffle 2nd Generation and when I plugged it into my computer iTunes says "iTunes does not recognize this ipod at this time. You must restore this ipod with ipod Reset Utility before it can be used with iTunes." I have tried pushing the on button to the off position and count to 10 I have also tried it while on the charging stand with no reults.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand your iPod Shuffle is not being recognized by iTunes, and we'd like to assist. It looks like you've come from a helpful article about restoring your iPod to factory settings. If you need to use the iPod Reset Utility, it can be downloaded here:


iPod Reset Utility 1.0.3 for Mac


iPod Reset Utility 1.0.4 for Windows


This is older software though and it may not run on more updated operating systems.
