Watch bricked after update

It’s been months since I’ve worn my Apple Watch now. It’s just been sitting in a drawer since the last time I updated it. Everything was normal prior. It’s in great condition. No damage whatsoever. It was time for an update so I placed it on its charger and started the update like normal. A while later my iPhone notified me that the update was complete so I took my watch off of its charger and was faced with needing to repair my watch to my iPhone. I thought it was weird as it’s never made me repair my watch after an update before but whatever right? So I attempted to pair it with my iPhone again and it has been stuck on the same pairing screen ever since. It says “please continue setup on iPhone” yet after doing the whole setup process it still says this and won’t do anything else. It’s completely locked up. It won’t even power down. I have to hold the power button until it force reboots but it simply opens back up to the same screen. I just want my watch back. I used it daily and for the price of these watches I’m not ready to upgrade when this one is in perfect working condition. I also don’t want to pay big bucks to have it fixed by Apple when it’s their update that killed it. Please help!

Hey Cammie0105,

It sounds like you have a concern with the Apple Watch being stuck on the setup screen. We can help.

This resource can help out with any pairing issues that you're having: If you can't pair an Apple Watch with your iPhone - Apple Support.

You can also try unpairing the Apple Watch and setting it up as new instead of from a backup, at least at first: Set up your Apple Watch. Also check that the iPhone is connected to a compatible Wi-Fi network: About Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cellular on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Check that your device shows the correct time in Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.

I did this when the incident first took place. In the app on my iPhone the watch no longer shows up because I reset the watch back to factory settings and unpaired it to see if it would come back to life. Sadly all that happened was the iPhone no longer showed the watch in the app because it was unpaired and now I have no way of repairing it to my phone because it didn’t fix the issue and is still frozen in the same place as before the attempted reset.

You just fixed my Apple Watch!! Without the method you sent to me, I would have never got my watch off of the “please continue setup on iPhone” screen. I thought it was frozen for good or that I would have to pay Apple to get it back up and running. It was still a struggle to get it to update and pair to my iPhone but after multiple attempts and resets, it’s working perfectly again! Thank you so much!
