I bought the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter in order to attach a USB mouse to a 12" MacBook (2017) while maintaining charging ability. The USB port works, but the charging doesn't. Is there a setting that needs to be set or is there a hardware incompatibility?

That's good to know.
The adapter, is supported for this model of MacBook: MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017) - Technical Specifications
If you have another charging port, we'd confirm the issue doesn't also happen when connected to the other port.
You can also restart the Mac normally: Log out, sleep, restart, and shut down
Should it persist, then it might be best to connect with Apple Support: Get Support
They'll take it from here.

Correct. It is not charging the MacBook. The original MacBook 29W adapter is plugged into the wall, then the original USB-C USB-C cable connects the AC adapter to the Multiport adapter, then that is into the USB-C port of the MacBook. Without the Multiport inbetween, the AC adapter and cable charge the MacBook normally.

What happens if you disconnect every cable and the adapter. Then reconnect the all the cables, then the adapter last?
Do you happen to have any other USB-C devices that you can test charging with this adapter?

Tried disconnecting all and reconnecting with the adapter last, plus various other orders. Still doesn't charge.
It does charge my Android phone when I try that.
