I received a pair of AirPods Pro used from a pawn shop, and it says that the previous owner still has their AppleID set up with it. How do I change that?

I have received a used pair of AirPods Pro, and it says that my location will be shared with the previous owner. I want the ownership to be switched to me. Is there any way of doing that? Thanks

Activation Lock is designed to prevent anyone else from using an Apple device if it's ever lost or stolen.

How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support

Activation Lock is an anti-theft feature that cannot be bypassed. Only the previous owner can remove the lock by using their Apple ID & password. Apple will not help you find the previous owner. If the previous owner cannot or will not remove the lock, then try to get a refund (through eBay) or dispose of the device properly.

I'm wondering if that's still true because of this:

Turn on Lost Mode for your AirPods

When you turn on Lost Mode for your AirPods (2nd generation) or later, your AirPods Pro, or your AirPods Max, you can share a message with your phone number or email address. If someone finds your AirPods, they can see the message on their iPhone.
