Pro Apps Bundle for Education - why does it take so long to send out the codes?

I bought the Pro Apps Bundle on Wednesday morning. I've been considering getting it for a while, and I had some work to get done quickly so decided that I'd might as well bite the bullet.

I noted that the store page states 1-3 days business days for delivery, but I disregarded that as how could it possibly take so long right? It's just emailing out some codes to redeem in the macOS app store. I made my purchase, and payment was taken immediately.

Big mistake. No codes were emailed out on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning my order status updated to 'shipped'. I assumed the codes would arrive any minute, because how long can it possibly take to 'ship' an email? No codes were emailed out on Thursday.

It's now Friday evening and I still haven't received my codes. I've had to complete my work by other means. I've been in touch with Apple support and they say I'll probably have to wait until Monday.

So my question, how can it possibly take longer than 5 minutes to email out download codes to software? Why 3 business days?

Every single piece of software I've bought in the last 10+ years has been available for download within 5 minutes. If I'd signed up to Adobe's student plan using my student email I'd of been able to download the full CC suite immediately and get to work.

For any students reading this, if you need this bundle make sure you order it a good week before you actually need to use it. For some inexplicable reason the ordering system for software on the apple online store is stuck in the 00's.

Thanks @n4shid, I hope yours come through quicker than mine. It's now been exactly 5 days since I made my purchase, still no sign of any download codes. It's mind blowing. There is no good explanation to be had for this, it's just lame.

I wondered if maybe they're manually verifying my student status, but even if that were true (and I don't think it is)

  • That shouldn't take 3 working days
  • They would surely have an automated system to do any checks anyway, it's 2022
  • My order status updated to 'shipped' on Thursday morning so any checks would surely have been completed by then but it's now Monday morning and I still haven't received the codes.
  • I bought an £800 computer through the education store the exact same way and that arrived the next day, why no long checks then

So ultimately I think it's just a legacy system on the online store that's a very low priority for Apple to modernise.

This is by far the worst experience I've ever had with Apple, it's hugely frustrating. All they have to do is generate single use codes for the app store and email them out. That should take seconds. So far it's taken 120 hours and counting.

I bought this yesterday too and I came across this thread - I was hoping for a better answer than "it will take 5 days to e-mail you some download codes", but apparently this is a really difficult and time-consuming practice..? So wack. I hope you got your thing sorted out @remedyrabbit, and I hope I do soon too lol. You took the words right out of my mouth regarding how ludicrous this is.
