How do I upgrade my MacBook pro to the latest software update? I went to "about this Mac" selected "Software update" and it doesn't show any available yet I cannot download apps and it is saying that an update is required to do so.

What model of Mac are you on, and from what year? Go to the Apple menu, and about this Mac. It may be easier to take a screenshot using shift command 4 and pasting the file from your desktop with screenshot. Do not show your serial number.
