LG UltraFine 5k monitor no longer detected by 14” M1 MacBook Pro

I have successfully been using an external 27" LG UltraFine 5k monitor with my 14” M1 MacBook Pro in clamshell mode since the day I got the MBP without problems. (This is the monitor Apple sells in place of the now-defunct Apple display)l

Suddenly, without any system changes I am aware of, the computer no longer recognizes the monitor either in clamshell or open. The computer continues to receive power through the monitor and all other devices (i.e. drives) to the monitor continue to be recognized.

I've tried all the usual things (restarting with/without monitor attached, unplugging monitor for 60 seconds, different cables and different ports, assuring OS Monterey is up to date) but with no luck.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have tried all the steps in that support document, to no avail.

In further troubleshooting, I purchased a new monitor with powered USB C capabilities.

After attaching the new monitor to the MBP via USB C, the new monitor was recognized and worked as expected in clamshell mode. So I figured the old monitor went bad.

However, the next morning after reconnecting the MBP to the monitor via USB C, the MBP no longer recognized a monitor is attached. I tried different USB C ports on the MBP, as well as different cables, but still nothing.

Then I attached the MBP to the new monitor via HDMI which worked. So there's some USB C external monitor issue (and very confusing that with both monitors it worked...until it stoped).

Any ideas? Thanks!
