Wrong Apple Pencil

I accidentally bought the wrong Apple Pencil (I need a gen 1 for my iPad Air 3) from a third party who doesn’t accept returns on electronics. If I take it to apple can they credit it to the right model? It hasn’t ever been linked to anything.
