does apple make a basic monitor?

Apple make Pro Display XDR. It has no built in computer. They also sell the LG Ultrafine 5k monitor.

For your Mac, I recommend getting a Thunderbolt dock, like the Caldigit TS3+ and then you can choose any monitor you like with a rather seamless experience, or purchasing an LG Ergo monitor (make sure it’s one that has a USB-C port for single connection charging and data).

I recommend purchasing an external monitor with at least 4k (3840 x 2160) resolution, as macOS doesn’t seem to like anything less (when I say it doesn’t like, I mean it looks horrendous) according to a lot of online posts, and my own experience.

if you have ANY concept of what is important to you, you would likely be better served by selecting an appropriate display for yourself from the many commercially available from regular retail sources and online.
